Tesla Turbine Data Acquisition and Control

In collaboration with Toucan Design, Inc. and The University of Colorado at Boulder, Dan and John lead an engineering team’s efforts in development for an experimental steam tesla micro turbine program.  The project consisted of three separate phases:  instrumentation and data acquisition on an existing prototype micro tesla turbine, mathematical modeling of dynamic tesla turbine behavior, and automated control.

The developed hardware controlled the speed and power output of the tesla turbine, while monitoring and recording data from a full range of electronic instrumentation. Mathematical models for the physical system were developed and verified, and used to ensure stability of the turbine in rapidly changing conditions.
