Our state of the art machining center is an extremely flexible 3 axis CNC gantry mill with an exceptionally large workspace – 96”x60”x6” - combined with a repeatable accuracy of 0.005” or better. The machining center is capable of cutting a wide range of materials from steel and aluminum to wood and foam. This in-house machine allows us to produce parts significantly faster and at lower cost than is typically possible with outsourced machining, and our internally developed control system offers best in class performance and robust operation. We utilize this machining center primarily for prototyping and small production runs.
Boulder Engineering Studio has extensive experience with engineering CAD modeling, utilizing Solidworks Premium 2010 and an array of open source modeling and simulation software packages. With a background in both teaching and developing 3D Parametric CAD software, we offer industry leading expertise in bringing concepts to computer models, and computer models to physical reality. As Certified Solidworks Professionals, the staff of Boulder Engineering Studio is ready to handle CAD projects large and small.
Circuit Board Design and Prototyping
We develop printed circuit boards (PCB) using modern techniques and state of the art components. Project scopes range from simple LED drivers to full system-on-a-chip embedded Linux devices. Complete development from concept to functional printed circuit boards is often achievable in a matter of weeks. |
3D printing is an additive manufacturing process where three dimensional objects are produced by laying down successive layers of material. Our 3D printer can produce plastic parts in a variety of colors and plastics, including ABS, HDPE, LDPE, PVC, and plant-based, biodegradable PLA. It can handle parts as large as 8"x8"x8" with a spacial resolution of 0.2mm. It can produce parts appropriate for physical prototyping and testing, and in some cases production end-user pieces. Parts are typically printed in a matter of hours.
Once modeled in CAD software, components and complete systems can be simulated through Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to better understand their behavior in the real world. Mechanical, electrical and thermal behavior can be analyzed and successively optimized to improve performance and avoid unanticipated failure in the field. We use a broad repertoire of software packages to meet our projects' needs, from commercial systems used as Solidworks Simulation, to original code written in house to meet the demands of specific projects.
Intellectual Property Services Boulder Engineering Studio has experience in patent research and writing, as well as working with external law firms and agencies to meet the intellectual property protection needs of client projects. We maintain strict standards of confidentiality for all our clients, and establish non-disclosure agreements whenever appropriate. In the modern field of software and electronics engineering, the ability to interface with open source projects and licensing can be key to rapidly and effectively developing new technology. We offer up to date knowledge of open software and hardware licenses, and how to work with them for both open and proprietary commercial projects. |
